Vanitas 12 started (10-14-2017)

I started a new piece: Vanitas 12 a few days ago. This is going to be another graphite drawing on Bristol board. The subject is my model McLane and an empty shell of cicada. I collected a dozen cicada shells back in Japan this summer. They were generally larger than their American counterparts and their color is darker and really shiny. Very beautiful, so I decided to use them for my art work. I collaged 3 different images together in Photoshop to create this composition. So far I've finished general shading with H pencils and am ready to move on to darker leads.

Japanese painter Ryohei Koiso (小磯良平 1903~1988)

Ryohei Koiso is my all time favorite Japanese painter. The brush works, use of colors, compositions, and psychological environments he creates are as exquisite as those of Vermeer's in my opinion. I dream about being able to produce art as fine as his one day...

I just finished my 2nd painting from Ohio Art League Thursday night open figure painting sessions. I worked on this piece over the past 4 weeks and I am pretty happy with the result. I had fun working with my fellow artists this summer.

Ohio State Fair Fine Arts Exhibition

I submitted my drawing "Bronzini" to this year's Ohio State Fair Fine Arts Exhibition and it was accepted. The drawing won 2 awards: Ohio Arts Council Award and Manifest Creative Research Gallery Award. And on top of that, it was sold on the opening day of the show! Very pleased!
