New Paper project!

I started working on a new project paper lamp shades. Instead of going through the book publishing route, I can try selling them myself online. This is the first prototype: Lion head. It was made of 2 templates cut, folded and glued together with a color changing LED light behind it. I still need to work more on finding the right bulb size and better positioning, but I am excited about this new project.

Paper Birds free online projects

My publisher Lark Crafts posted free online projects for my upcoming book "Paper Birds" on their web site. You can download the templates and the instructions for free, make your own paper birds and wait for the book to come out in June. So these free projects are sort of appetizers, I suppose. Here is the link to the free stuff page.

Paper Birds photo shoot

This week I drove down to Asheville, NC for a photo shoot of my upcoming papercraft book, "Paper Birds". I spent 3 days in my publisher Lark Books' studio working as a stylist with the designer Shannon Yokeley and their photographer Steve Mann. We photographed 40 paper birds including baby owls and baby penguins. Shannon is such a perfectionist. She doesn't get satisfied until she gets near perfect shots. I admire that. Thanks to her, the photographs turned out really nice. My birds looked much better than I had imagined. Below are snapshots of the photo session.

Here is Shannon teaching a trick to multicolored Canaries on a stick.

Here is Steve in a staring contest with a Pelican.

A happy family of Horned Owls on the computer screen.

This book is scheduled to hit the book stores in June 2014. Just like my previous books, it will have templates to copy and cut, and step-by-step instructions. I will update on the book's progress in my later posts.
