Gum printing

For the past few weeks, I have been experimenting with single color gum bichromate printing inspired by Matthew Brandt's work currently on display at Columbus Museum of Art. I am planning on teaching the process to my students in a few days. So far I have tried iron oxide, freeze-dried coffee, powdered green tea and paprika as pigments to print my images with. I am quite pleased with the results I got from iron oxide and pleasantly surprised by the subtle yet beautiful tonality I got from paprika. I am going to post a few more on my alternative photography portfolio page, but the below are what I got so far. This printing process is primitive but fun because it gives you so much freedom and room for experimentation. I think my students will enjoy this process.

Paper Monsters & Curious Creatures progress update

I just found the cover image of my book "Paper Monsters & Curious Creatures" online. The designer at Lark Books Kristi Pfeffer did a great job coming up with this design. I think it really communicates the kind of fun my readers will have working on these projects. The release date of this book is August 5th this year. There will be plenty of time for my readers to make these monsters and get ready for Halloween!

Drawing portfolio

I uploaded my drawing portfolio to this web site. My main mediums have been photography and sculpture, but I do have strong love for drawing and I have been producing drawings ever since I started studying art back in the early 1990s. Many of them I uploaded were done for the purpose of classroom demonstrations. Some were done on my own to keep my skills up. Recently I decided to go back to do more drawing. I am going to keep adding more whenever I get the ones I like.
