Graphite on Bristol board, 12" x 16", 2019.

I wanted to technically challenge myself with this piece. The wall in the background was from a photo reference I took in Venice, Italy a few years ago. I was looking for a chance to use it in my work for a long time. I think the texture of the wall looks fantastic. I rendered the background a little softer around the edges than the figure so that it created the illusion of her being in focus and the background being slightly out of focus. This piece was conceived as a homage to one of my art heroes: Kent Bellows.
