Graphite and colored pencils on Bristol board, 18" x 13", 2021.

I recycled the background I had used for Vanitas 22. I just love the beautiful texture of the wall I photographed in Venice, Italy a few years ago. I experimented with a little bit of mixed media using graphite and colored pencils. I like the way the reflected light coming from the white cloth at the bottom adds a little extra glow to her eyes and intensity to her expression. Even though this drawing is very tight, there are some less controlled elements in it. I did not completely render her sweater and left the uneven graphite powder under-rubbing marks shown in the chest and her left arm area. I just felt this piece needed that kind of imperfection somewhere.
